Nusrat Hassan’s Journey from Employment to Entrepreneurship

In a society where traditional gender roles have often confined women to the domestic sphere, Nusrat Hassan stands out as a beacon of empowerment and entrepreneurship. Born and raised in the family of Kashmir Moulvi Ali Baba in Zadibal, Srinagar and later integrated into the Biegh Family of Reshipora, Budgam, Hassan’s journey is one of resilience and determination.
Hassan’s early education at Zadibal High School laid the foundation for her future endeavors. Despite societal pressures, she got engaged during her 10th standard and married at the tender age of 17, while still pursuing her education. Although she couldn’t complete her graduation due to unforeseen circumstances, Hassan’s thirst for knowledge never waned.
Transitioning from the classroom to the domestic sphere, Hassan initially took an employment and worked as a teacher in various private schools in central Kashmir’s district Budgam. However, her entrepreneurial spirit led her to venture into the world of knitting. Establishing her boutique within the confines of her home, Hassan defied convention by refusing to relocate her business elsewhere, opting instead to manage her family and enterprise under one roof.
For over two decades, Hassan has nurtured her knitting business, mentoring countless women along the way. Through her guidance, many have found the confidence to launch their own boutiques, thereby contributing to their households and communities. Her boutique, adorned with an eclectic array of woolen goods, showcases both her craftsmanship and the talents of her employees.
Despite juggling the responsibilities of motherhood and entrepreneurship, Hassan remains undeterred in her pursuit of success. Her three daughters, each charting their unique paths, serve as a testament to her unwavering dedication to both family and career. From pursuing PhDs to venturing into journalism, Hassan’s daughters embody the spirit of empowerment instilled by their mother.
